Arty is a LINC with the consciousness of Asher Westwood, slotted into an Arditi.
| “Y'know, I don't see any otha' Aelfs 'ere wit' metal parts and articulatin' joints carryin' guns, so it seems like I'm state-of-the-art for your situation, kid. A musket ain't all 'dat ancient if ya dealin' in fists, hopes, an'dreams.” - Arty to Niall Callaghan |
Arty looks much like any Arditi-8 when they were still in mass-production in the United Terran Republic. The unit's frame is covered in marring scratches and battle scars, which are much easier to notice when the metal is properly polished and cleaned up. Unlike standard Arditis, Arty stands out by moving much like a normal person, articulating itself in a much more fluid manner as opposed to standard robotic steps and movements.
Personality: Arty carries over many of the characteristics of the man it once was. Unlike Asher, Arty doesn't carry a lot of the emotional baggage from years of war, strife, and suffering. Without those memories, it approaches life with a carefree attitude, typically acquiescing to people and reasonable demands very easily. On the other hand, it also displays a certain relish for war and combat. Being based off of an ideal soldier, Arty operates very well in missions when forward with a unit.
While somewhat eclectic, Arty is still led by the base directives of an Arditi unit. Its LINC can override the first directive, but those directives tend to guide his actions most of the time. In interactions that involve humans, it will try to solve matters amicably and peacefully, and will put up with a certain amount of abuse before reacting.
Likes: General chaos, action, staring up at the stars, being plugged into a reliable power source, being Arty, being around other people, learning about the person it was, robotic scrap, handsy female mechanics, and a good atmosphere.
Dislikes: Deep pools of water, medical staff, getting mistaken for a Seg Arditi, creepy crawly sounds in dark places, handsy male mechanics, and an overly serious atmosphere.
Goals: To learn who it was; to wander and fight; and to be of service as a good Arditi.
Asher Orkin Westwood suffered severe injuries after fighting in a fleet-action in the year 4049. The man's body was recovered after being ejected from the engine room of a Drathonian cruiser. He omehow survived the small stint in the vacuum along with exposure to intense radiation. The medics had pronounced dead before arriving to the med-bay, but he burst back to life, tenaciously and voraciously hanging on to consciousness towards his final moments. His friend and cohort, Destiny Briggs, the woman who had managed to recover his body, was the same person who managed save his mind.
As Asher's eyes faded, the first successful mind-swap of Terran-to-Aelf took place, and a LINC-slotted Arditi came to life out of a charging unit across the room. Still mentally a Surandanian, it was unable to come to terms with what had happened to it, and did what Asher normally did when he was in med-bays, escape. While the medics and doctors worked on his fading body, Asher left for the first shuttle going down for an engagement. The Marines on board didn't object to the extra support, and it went down with them to fight in the closing battles of the war. Life from there on was pretty good for Asher. Being Asher in the robot body, it got to fight as long as it kept up with power-constraints and being ordered about as a machine.
At the end of the war, the unit struggled to find a place, much like the rest of the Arditis in the end. So, somewhat wizened by its experience, it sought out the Avatars that were being transitioned as well. One of them reached back in a violent way, and it became the first step of Asher's involvement in the Aelf Uprisings. This was the point where Asher became Arditi Prime, the central command unit that enabled Arditis to attack humans by exploiting the man's memories of war and of surviving on Surandan.
Having enough self-awareness to realize what was happening, Asher fought back relentlessly, trying to upset every step of the Segregationist effort. It would forcefully deconnect, reroute control to other systems, and even sometimes turn Arditis on other Aelfs. To combat this, his overlords began to wipe its mind, slowing chiseling away the memories that defined Asher. Despite this, it continued to resist, to the point to where only Arditi Prime was left, and no useful vestige of the man it was remained.
The Segs dumped Arditi Prime into the sewers of an occupied fort on the Planet Hetra. There it stayed for over fifty years, comatose, and trying to recompile a sense of self. In 4101, the droid had managed to recover awareness within its LINC, but none of the memories. It stayed in the sewer, not knowing a reason to leave it, and accepting that it had been placed there to satisfy a sort of guard duty. In 4110, Arditi Prime was found by a squad of Marines being led by a Staff Sergeant Camilla Enos. Thinking nothing of Adridi, she named the unit Arty, and took it with them.
