Magitech

Overview

Magitech is a newer type of magic system, developed in the twentieth century, which is derived from Caster Weapons, but which uses a purer form of magic shell, as opposed to spells contained within a magically augmented firearm cartridge. Magitech weapons are infinitely customizable, and often have several modes, usually incorporating both ranged and melee weapons into their design. Magitech is both a magic-use skill and a physical combat skill, and most magitech weapons will function as melee weapons, even when no magic is present.

The 'Magic'

The Magic form of Magitech may come in one or more of three forms, depending on the Magitech weapon in use. Direct Power, magic Crystals, or Shells.

Direct Power

The simplest form of power for Magitech, is direct power from the user. This is not especially efficient, and can sometimes have unwanted results, though it is often used in conjunction with the other methods of powering Magitech items, generally to increase the power of a certain strikes. Direct power is exactly as described; the user using their innate magical power to directly power some of the Magitech Weapon's capabilities.

Crystals

The Earliest form of indirect power for a Magitech item is the use of a Magic Crystal. These crystals can either be found in nature, as pure manifestations of Mana in solid form, or they can be manufactured by compressing magic powders together under high heat, either via machinery, or magical techniques. Font's bane is another form of Crystallized mana, but it is generally considered Taboo to use.

Shells

Shells are the traditional way in which to power a Magitech item. They consist of a magically augmented shell, similar to a Bullet casing, usually made from magically derived, or magic enhancing materials. Shells are filled with mana by the user, and used as an internally activated, long-term stored source of energy which can be easily replaced in the same way a firearm's ammunition can. Shells can be used via magitech weapon functions to function as a magical firearm, or to power alternate functions of the Magitech weapon, such as melee power, or increased mobility.

Short

Short shells are roughly the size of pistol rounds, and carry the smallest amount of magical energy. as a result they are less powerful, but drastically easier to store, carry, and recharge. Short Shells are very popular because they are easy to use, and Short shells are also very inexpensive to buy as well as easy to make. Short Shells tend to be favored by beginners, but can be powerful enough for advanced users if utilized properly.

Long

Long shells are second in popularity to Short shells. Roughly the size of Rifle rounds, they carry three to four times as much magical energy as Short shells. Long shells are readily available, but more expensive to procure and use than short shells. Long shells are good for beginner and intermediate users, and are favored by some advanced users for their balanced power to size ratio.

Macro

Macro shells are larger in diameter, but roughly equal in length to Long rounds. They are fairly uncommon and fairly expensive both in terms of acquisition and magic use, but pack enormous power, four to five times that of Long shells. Typically avoided by beginner and intermediate users, they are very flexible rounds that have a large number of uses, but can be difficult to control, and are thus only commonly used by advanced users.

Mega

Fairly ludicrously oversized rounds, the same diameter as a Macro but twice as long, and carrying at least twice the power. Mega shells are extremely uncommon, and usually custom-made. Mega rounds tend to only be used by novices who simply want overwhelming power, and have more money than sense.

The 'Tech'

Magitech tech comes in the form of the Weapon. A Magitech Weapon can have several functions, but is generally foldable, and contains at least one Melee form, one Ranged form, and a tertiary function, which generally increases mobility.

Melee

The primary function of the Magitech weapon is that of a Melee weapon; Early Magitech weapons were simply normal melee weapons with magic-infused abilities such as flame, ice, and other augmentations, though more modern ones tend to rely on the weapons traditional design and incorporate the shell's boosting powers to increase striking, cutting, and piercing power. A Magitech's melee form requires no shells or crystals to use, but must be activated via direct user magic.

Ranged

The secondary function of a Magitech weapon is its ranged ability, which generally uses the Shell in order to produce a magical blast- the behavior of this blast depends on the design of the weapon, as well as the shell or crustal type which is used. In some cases, especially with smaller weapons, the ranged function may be performed via direct power, but this will tire the user very quickly.

Tertiary Functions

The Tertiary functions of a Magitech weapon are not always present, and never required, however, these help increase the effectiveness of the weapons. Usually activated by a shell, the tertiary effect is usually not directly combat related, but is often incredibly useful in combat. most commonly the tertiary function increases a user's mobility, although they can also be used offensively and defensively, such as creating fireballs or a shield of ice, for example. Tertiary functions can also be supportive in nature, and include healing, buffing, and transferring of magic power from one magic user to another.
