Ice Lord

Perhaps a Myth, Perhaps the Truth, the Ice Lord, typically referred to as a King or Queen, is rumored to be a personage of immense power who controls the element of Water, typically wielding it in the form of Ice, hence the moniker.

Summary

The Ice Lord is a title typically given to a person of Onerous power with the element of water, usually in the form of Ice. This power is a bloodline power, and does not manifest with every generation. When it does manifest, the inheritor of said power has the potential to become incredibly powerful, with the ability to change even the very weather itself, affecting change on a continental scale, if rumors are to be believed. It has also been said, that an Ice Lord has the power to ascend to godhood, and many of its inheritors have at least achieved the status of demi-god in their times.

History

While not confirmed, what history is recorded of the Ice Lord power is that it was bequeathed to man when a god of water became enamored with a human princess, and descended to the mortal plane and took her as his wife. Their offspring became demigods, however, they did not show any signs of inheriting their father’s power, aside from longevity and a larger pool of mana from which to draw. As the generations proceeded onward, an individual was born whom had finally inherited the god’s powers, but by that time their divine origin had been forgotten. This powerful individual became a great ruler, but was ultimately slain by jealous subordinates. The bloodline lived on through the ruler’s offspring, but once again several generations passed before another Ice Lord emerged. Thus the cycle began, unpredictable on when the bloodline would be inherited, and how powerful the inheritor would become. Through fate, or perhaps some other influence, the bloodline has managed to survive to modern day, where it was once again inherited after more than two hundred years of slumber.

Previous inheritors of the Ice Lord bloodline have caused Ice ages, and it’s rumored that one such ancestor is the reason that the Bering strait was able to freeze over and allow for early humanoids to travel from Asia to the Americas. Ice lords have been both noble and evil, generous and jealous, and have come in both genders. At some point, the bloodline came to Japan, and has stayed within the island nation for at least a thousand years. Among the few who are truly aware of what the Ice Lord bloodline power is, there is a consensus that, given the right host, the bloodline is capable of ascending its inheritor past the demigod state and into true godhood.

Power

The Ice Lord bloodline has been proven to give two things very consistently; power over the element of water in all its states, though most commonly of Ice, and a much larger pool of mana than an average magus has access to. Because of this, it is speculated that only around 10% of inheritors survive past the infant stage, as much like in the case of a Font, the sheer volume of magic often damages the body of its host in a fatal manner. Only the last two known inheritors of the bloodline have been able to benefit from a magical amulet that is capable of sealing and redirecting the magic power, allowing their bodies to mature before the power has a chance to damage it.

The actual ‘powers’ of an Ice Lord are many and varied, and trying to list them all would be an act of folly, as in truth they are only limited by the ingenuity of the user, as well as their ability to critically think, and of course just how much mana they are able to bring to bear, which varies from inheritor to inheritor. Typically, however, there are three major categories with which the power is manifested; Manipulating Water/Ice, Summoning Water/Ice, or Weather Manipulation.

Manipulate Water/Ice

As it says on the tin- This is the basic manipulation of extant moisture in the environment to create ice or water, or even steam if needed. This ability typically uses very little mana and can be performed effortlessly by the majority of inheritors. Truthfully, this ability can be used to manipulate any substance that is water based, however, it has trouble manipulating the blood of living creatures other than the caster, unless that creature is willing, or unconscious.

Summon Water/Ice

Summons Water (typically in the form of Ice) from seemingly nowhere. This takes up a fairly normal amount of mana to do, and is especially useful if there is not enough ambient moisture to manipulate in a useful manner, such as indoors, in a desert environment, or in urban areas that do not have many waterways.

Weather Manipulation

Utilizing a combination of the two prior abilities, and typically via injecting large amounts of mana, the Inheritor has the ability to persuade the weather at large to change to their whims, whether by creating simple cloud cover, rains, or fog, or even the summoning of storms of varying degrees. the opposite is also true, where an Ice Lord can dispel most clouds, and even natural storms, within their means, or even increase the perceived temperature of an area by increasing its humidity or reflecting sunlight from one location to another via creatively angled cloud formations. While all Ice Lords have had this ability to some extent, only a very select few have been able to affect more than just their local weather patterns.
