Abilities

Primary Ability

  • Comedy Magic - Lucia's Magic is based primarily on making people laugh, getting into their head and giving them something to laugh about, whether it is by doing or saying something funny. It is fuelled primarily by the reactions of the target audience along with Lucia's own pluckiness and willingness to push the joke along. Positive reactions beget positive emotions, whereas negative emotions will bite the target in the ass severely in an ironic and funny fashion.

Secondary Ability

  • Spell Casting - Lucia has learned and is able to cast rudimentary spells expected of most members of Occultus Magica.
  • Don't Explain the Joke - This was a mental trick that took a few years to hone, and required OM's help with the matter. Bluntly speaking, a person without magical ability is quite simply compelled not to ask where she pulled the soda bottle from, or where the twenty rubber chickens came from, or where she keeps all of her stuff without anything being noticeable.

How she Discovered her Powers
Lucia Bentleigh took up acting classes in school. She turned out to be the star of the show in school productions of Ubu Rex, The Mikado, Pirates of Penzance and in A Midsummer Night's Dream, taking the leading roles and commanding the stage. The tutors and other students thought the shows were 'magical'. One day, while she and her small team were practicing for an independently made physical comedy, Lucia Bentleigh threw a pie at her tutor, without realizing it, or having a pie on hand.

The tutor cracked up laughing and called it 'brilliant improvisation'. Lucia, unaware of how she got the pie, or why the teacher didn't ask, just decided to roll with it. The production went on unplanned with pies and other physical implements on hand as the team did a deconstruction/reconstruction of slapstick comedy, thrusting her into stardom and getting a contract or two with a movie company. She took the stage name “Loopy Lady Lucia”.

However, it turns out that someone in the audience knew what she was doing, someone knew what she was capable of, and approached her with a stern warning to keep her head down and stop. She explained that she's been doing this for about seven years, and nobody else ever wanted the joke explained, and that she was not willing to part with her stage secrets. They did not take this well.

The ensuing fight lead Lucia to believe that someone was jealous of her talent, causing her to continue using her abilities - after all, the audience was happy, so why should one bunch of idiots spoil the fun for everyone? That's when someone else approached her with a more open hand - the tutor she threw the pie at so many years ago turned out to be someone of importance within the magical community, and took her into the fold of Occultus Magica.

Slapstick

Slapstick is all about physical comedy, and usually orients itself towards offensive and defensive physical attacks.

  • Soda Bottle - A jet of water from a bottle or hose that can be merely annoying, or it can cut a hole in a wall.
  • Numbskull - Allows Lucia to shrug off injuries that'd bruise or stun anyone without any ill effects. Upon being struck, a loud, appropriately funny noise is heard, and attributed to a sound technician.
  • Pie Fight - Allows Lucia to throw a cream, custard or shaving cream pie. A hit to the face means temporary blindness.
  • Plank Dilemma - Lucia requires a plank, ladder or other unwieldy long object for this to work. People around her are compelled to walk into the plank as she turns around and wonders where to put it.
  • Man Shaped Hole - Lucia can hurl herself through a thin wall and leave an almost perfect outline, hair included.
  • Road Runner - “Meep meep!”
  • Groin Shot - There isn't really that much magic to this, but she can amplify the physical reaction on the receiving end (not the pain), usually accompanied by a bell.

Standup

Standup is the art of mental tricks and fast-talking, allowing her to get her way.

  • Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - This mental trick works on people who think they can take advantage of Lucia, by making them grossly overestimate their chances of success by filling their mind with delusions of grandeur.
  • The Aristocrats - Depending on how long she has to explain the dirty joke, it will amplify how hard the audience laughs, or how sick her target feels.
  • Abbot and Costello - She causes someone to follow along with her act to play as the “Straight Man” (Abbot) to her “Funny Man” (Costello). However, she needs to know the targets name in order for this to work. She loves using “Who's On First”.
  • Marcel's Revenge - This compels the target (and herself) to be completely quiet, or get trapped in what they imagine is a glass box, blown away by the wind, or get roped towards her. People with magical talent and a bit of willpower can resist this.

Pranks

Pranks require more preparation and some extra bits and pieces to work, and usually serve as utility spells.

  • Vewwy Vewwy Quiet - Lucia draws a chalk circle around herself and whoever she needs to talk to, draws runes and sigils around the circle and imbues her will into it. People cannot hear what goes on unless they're in the circle. This also allows Lucia to use telephones to send-receive phone calls, but nothing can interfere with the signal if it isn't in the circle. This also serves as a scrying blank.
  • The Walls have Eyes - Lucia needs a sheet of paper with eyes drawn all over it. A printed picture full of eyes also seems to work. She lays it flat on a surface while chanting an invocation. With a bit of focus, she can see what the wall sees, allowing her to have surveillance over an area. She can't have more than one active, otherwise it stretches her will too far.
  • A Very Crappy Day - Lucia requires a personal item from the target, or their hair/skin/nails. After making a lengthy incantation, she can condemn the target to have terrible luck for the following day. When something does happen, people around the target are compelled to laugh before helping.

Physical

Appearance: At a petite five foot seven inches with a willowy body, Lucia doesn't have a very intimidating appearance. She has firey orange/red hair and blazing blue eyes that are full of mischief, constantly looking for the next practical joke to play on an unsuspecting friend.
Magical Item: The Trunk - It contains almost all of her implements, except for a plank and a kitchen sink. It looks and acts like a suitcase to the unseen eye.
Magical Outfit: The Sharp Dressed Woman - She's usually seen with a three-piece purple and canary yellow pinstripe zoot suit with a feathered hat when she's out on business.

Inventory

Nothing as of yet.
