Purity: Mostly Impure

Magic Type: Runology (Both Japanese and Celtic runes)
Active status: Active

Abilities

Primary Ability: Runology

  • Aya knows how to write and use a large number of runes, both from japan and from Celtic tradition. She primarily uses paper to write runes upon, preferring rice paper over any other kind. She uses a brush with runes engraved on it that make it nearly impossible for her to make a mistake while writing.

Secondary Ability: Artistry

  • With her mistake-proof brush, Aya makes her living by day as a traveling artist, and has some minor fame as an extremely accurate artist. She is most skilled in painting landscapes, and wildlife, which she does in a beautiful traditional Japanese style.

How powers were granted: Upon turning ten, Aya was given her rune-etched brush, which allowed her to create masterful works of art without mistake. She soon discovered that she could also copy runes onto paper tags, and invoke magical effects with them. Aya and family went on a world-spanning trip to give Aya new scenes to paint, and, during a trip to Ireland, she came across Celtic runes. Aya studied the runes, but found it difficult to understand them. As she was exploring a ruin one day, looking for a place to paint and more runes to copy down, she copied down a sequence of runes that summoned an evil spirit 1), whom offered to give her the ability to understand and use the runes in exchange for allowing it to reside in her body. Promising that it would not harm her, she agreed. Immediately, the Spirit corrupted her, taking over her body and assuming her identity. The Spirit has made it so that Aya thinks she is doing things of her own free will, and Aya does not even realize that she is possessed, not even noticing when Caoranach takes full control of her body.
