Johann was content to stand back and let everyone else do the social work necessary. He couldn't have possibly predicted a fellow student would light their teacher on FIRE!

The spark spell ignited a compassionate panic in the boy, and he rushed forward, his one exposed eye wide. As he raced past the psychopath that had assaulted their teacher, her three eyes would note the way the stone flashed as his path crossed her sights. But Johann only had eyes for their teacher who was STILL ON FIRE.

"W-w-w-w- Agh!" The frustration and panic were plain in Johann's voice as he glanced frantically for something to smother the small, blossoming flames. Finding nothing, he began to pat wildly at Professor Ruarc with his long sleeves. Chuffy padded forward, whining uncomfortably in tune with his boy's emoting.

Kat watched as the series of events folded, rather quickly, and after Willow's failed attempt at reason, Drysi Immediately set their teacher on fire. Not with the precision of setting just a small object on fire; a task that Kat was well suited for, instead, the Triclops just picked a random spot and set it ablaze without a second thought. "Wait- Uhh, that's not what I-" Kat tried to protest, but it was too late. Much to her chagrin, the half-Japanese girl watched as Johann took the opportunity to try and put out the flames though his attempt was rather half-hearted, and he wasn't even prepared for the task.

"I'll get it!" Kat said to the boy, concentrating and using her magic to conjure up a small rain cloud above Ruarc, starting a small downpour to douse the flames- Unfortunately, Johann was too close and he, too, soon found himself drenched. As Kat was a bit worried about the whole situation, some of her nervousness found its way into her magic, causing a small flash of lightning to emanate within the cloud, a dull peal of thunder resonating from the cloud itself before the whole thing seemed to simply pop into a final downpour of water, with Katerina's control over the cloud being lost.

Willow was about to jump in on putting out the small fire when she noticed something; something Johann would notice on the first attempt at patting the druid, and again when the rain arrived. Johann’s hands, and the rain, passed right through Ruarc as though he weren’t there. With the addition of the water, enough disruption had occurred, and what had appeared to be their teacher shimmered and faded into mist. What was left behind was a small rune stone.

As Drysi waved the stone around, it began to glow in several directions, but it glowed brightest from the far side of the glade, pointing at a not insignificantly sized oak tree. At that point, the youths could hear quiet laughter. With a rustle, Mr. Flynn dropped down from up in the branches of the oak, landing in a stable stance. After straightening his vest and adjusting his hat, he pulled out the target handkerchief; the emerald cloth had been tied with a small iron ring on one end to give the students something to grab on to.

“I’ve gotta ask, how’d you know that that was an illusion, Drysi?” Ruarc asked, rubbing his neck in contemplation. “I’m still working on my illusion runes, so I s’pose I still have a way to go. Regardless, let the game begin in earnest.”

With that, Ruarc slipped the handkerchief through one of his belt loops with the metal ring hanging down. Then, looking decidedly relaxed, he tucked his hands into the pockets on his vest and began to casually walk towards the group. Back at the entrance of the glade, Laoise rolled her eyes at the Irishman’s posturing.

”Admit it, you’re enjoying yourself, aren’t you?” Laoise chided mentally. The only sign that Ruarc heard her was his head drooping a bit.

Willow was still transfixed on the spot where the illusory Mr. Flynn had been when the real one had begun walking towards them. ”Real magic!” Willow thought in amazement. With eyes that were surely shimmering she turned towards her mentor, and her demeanor shifted to one of determination. She wanted to see more magic. On spry feet, Willow took off at a dead sprint that showed off what she had to offer to the group. She may not have grown up knowing about magic, but she had always been very active in sports. In no time she had crossed most of the distance between herself and Flynn.

Mr. Flynn saw his student begin charging, and pulled one hand out of his pocket. Between his fingers was a small plain disk of metal. Dropping it on the ground, he then stepped on it as a jet of air shot upward, pushing the druid with it. It was a small burst, but enough to make him jump over Willow’s head as she sprinted under his arc. By the time he landed his other hand had withdrawn from his pocket, more of the coins held between his fingers.

”Yeah, you’re enjoying yourself,” Laoise confirmed.

"Bweh heh heh he he he!" cackled Drysi maniacally, her face one of triumph and incredulity as their teacher appeared. She had papers coming out of her bag, and arrayed out in front of her in a row, each with the glowing markings of spells not yet finished. "You'll need to do better than that, Mr. Flynn. Conagher's Principle states that all illusions must exhibit reaction to fully fool the mind, or be cast directly upon the mind so that the target does the work for you. Hee hee hee!"

Despite her bravado, her knees were shaking as she furiously scrawled on one of the pieces of parchment in front of her. She only had three more prepped scrolls that she could write upon on the fly. Other than the Spark spell, she had nothing else prepared, which meant she needed to make these count. As she finished up her next spell she yelled to the others.

"Willow! Keep at him! We need to keep him moving! Rich girl! Johann! If you've got any support spells, now's the time! Vrey! I want that handkerchief!" bossed the Triclops, before bursting into a fit of evil laughter as she finished the first spell. She yanked out a key-lock and pressed it into the scroll and hastily read off the spell. As she did so, the scroll began to burn away, along with the iron lock. The rest of them might not have recognized the incantation, but Ruarc knew the traditional verbal and material components of a Heat Metal spell.

Those coins he held began to heat rapidly.

"OH... no?" Johann's mind somersaulted through a series of emotions through the brief expression: deep concern, then, a pause of confusion, followed immediately by relief and more confusion.

He spun at the sound of Ruarc dropping out of a tree, and it all made sense. No one would likely see the mild blush that bloomed on his cheeks. Johann himself hardly noticed, he was in problem-solving mode. Without his book, he didn't have a whole lot of options. He hadn't been expecting this, and hadn't wanted to lug his spellbook through the woods: it was heavy. Thinking quickly, he picked up a stick, aimed in Ruarc's general direction, and threw it.

"FETCH, CHUFFY!" And the undead beast sprinted after the hurtling stick. Chuffy, however, wasn't a great fetcher. He had a tendency to grab anything within the general landing site of his target and bring it back. Johann wasn't so sure it would work, but it was all he had in that moment.

Vrey's lips twitched happily as the group broke out into combat against their instructor. The bald girl clapped her gauntlet covered hands together in appreciation for how quickly everyone was responding towards the same goal - it was a kind of teamwork, even if it wasn't very structured. Then, with a confident nod to herself, the short teen disappeared from where she was standing near the back of the group.

Without even a bit of fanfare Vrey was now sitting cross-legged directly behind Ruarc. The odd girl had one of her leather gauntlets held firmly between her teeth and reached out with her still armoured hand to poke a single finger to the back of her instructor's knee. "Ah-po-gee Der-ek-tor." Vrey voice was barely more than a buzz as she worked her words around the mouthful she was carrying before she reached out with her uncovered hand and gently threaded her fingers between a clump of grass.

Green light filled the teen's grey eyes and raised veins raced down her face and across her arm before reaching forth from her fingers as a myriad of vibrant tendrils that quickly latched onto the underbrush in contact with her fingers. The grass shivered and then stretched - thinning out and twisting in unnatural knots - before surging to wrap around Ruarc's legs as glowing green burrs grew from the edges to snag at the cloth of his pants.

Suddenly, everything was in motion again, as their teacher dropped down from the trees, the version of him she had just doused having been an illusion. once more, Drysi was barking out orders for everyone- The moniker 'Rich Girl' still striking a bit of a nerve again, but now was no time to say anything about it. since they had tried fire, and she had already used water, those two were probably not good choices. With all the chaos, Earth magic probably wouldn't help much- either she'd miss entirely or she could even run the risk of crushing Mr. Flynn. So, Wind magic it was for the time being.

Focusing on the element of air, the breath of wind, Katerina tried to move all the chaos from her mind and instead recall the lessons and practice she'd had on controlling it. Remembering an incantation she had been shown to help control and channel the air to where she wanted it, the young mage recited the words quickly and quietly before pushing forward with her hands, intending to release a gust of wind at Ruarc to knock him off balance and perhaps obscure his vision.

"Maybe I shouldn't have jumped right into the middle of the group," Ruarc thought as he processed the new responses the students made. Although, the Irishman was using this as his own training as well. The students were unlikely to break his defense, match his speed, or stand up too much in the way of more offensive spells; they were kids, after all. By adding the stipulation that all they needed to do was take the handkerchief from him, it was in essence fighting opponents that could take him out in a single hit if he wasn’t careful. Couple that with their sporadic manner of attacking, and you got a situation that required split second processing while also trying to read how each student was going to strike.

As such, he was already moving once he registered what Drysi was casting. Heat Metal was a serious hindrance when used effectively, and it was quick thinking on Drysi’s part to identify the material his runes were carved into and produce a counter. As her incantation concluded, Ruarc began to shift the coins. The rune in between his index finger and middle finger was flicked over into his open hand. The remaining runes were tossed a short ways away. The rune he still held sat loose in his calloused palm, the druid trusting his weathered hands to hold onto the coin for a few moments more.

As he was doing his coin trick he was genuinely caught off guard by Vrey poking the back of his leg. She had teleported behind him and ensnared him in those brief moments, although why she didn’t just grab the handkerchief remained a mystery. The grass had braided itself around his calves, but his quick glance showed him that the grass was also deteriorating. He would be hampered, but only briefly it seemed.

The next matter at hand connected with him almost immediately. A gout of powerful wind slammed into him, blowing his hat off and threatening to topple him over onto Vrey sat behind him were it not for his ground stance. It likely would have blinded him for a few moments, but thankfully his glasses proved helpful for once and broke the wind enough for him to still see.

Which was good, as there was a dog on an intercept course for him. Pivoting his torso to shield against the wind, he wound up the hand that still cradled the scalding coin. A little spark of energy was all he put into the rune as he didn’t want to hurt the dog. As the dog neared, Ruarc made a swatting motion in front of the dog while cupping his hand. The rune lit up as another wind rune activated. Directed by his hand and motion, Ruarc’s swing pushed Chuffy a little ways off course; with the downside of the wind pushing the hot metal hard into his palm.

Pushing off with one of his braced legs, Ruarc used the added force from the rune to push up against the decaying grass that held him in place, but it still held. Leaning far to the side to shift his weight he then pulled, and the grass gave way. Twisting a bit awkwardly as his other foot was still held, Ruarc fell to the ground; and out of Chuffy’s way. The dog’s momentum along its slightly deviated course brought him face to face with Vrey. The druid from his position pushed off sprinter style, tearing the grass around his other foot and propelling himself off to the side.

Willow, who had circled back and was now observing to try to gauge how Mr. Flynn was going to move, was momentarily awestruck. So. Much. MAGIC! This was exactly what she had been hoping to see, and she was almost certain she could relax as there was no way Mr. Flynn could get out of a crossfire like that. Until he did. Uh oh. But the sporty Brit recognized the runner stance Ruarc took, and knew it was great for moving forward, by not side to side. So Willow started running before her mentor kicked off, moving on an intercept course for where she figured his stride would carry him.

Mere feet away, Willow reached out for the metal ring of the handkerchief, Ruarc was focused on the ground. Right…towards… the spots… where he had...thrown his other runes. The British girl had just enough time to curse and reach out as Ruarc prepared to jump. It felt like she was being ignored like that, and she didn’t like it. She wanted nothing more than to just pull that coin out from under him, so much so that it felt like a fire in her stomach. The rune lit up as his foot connected with it.

“Damn it!” Willow cried. The next thing she knew something had struck her in the chest, and not very gently. Looking down, it was the coin.

Ruarc’s experience was quite different. One instant he was about to launch into the air again, the next he was in the air but woefully off course. The coin hadn’t been where he thought it was, and the jet of air blew him off to the side rather than up and forward. A rather embarrassing mistake for a seasoned druid to make. The flight was short and at a low angle, and before long he connected with the ground as he landed on his shoulder and rolled. Coming out of the roll, he stopped himself in a one knee crouch with a hand braced on the ground as he got his bearings. His hair was tousled, some of his buttons had snapped, and his glasses had fallen off during the roll; he imagined he probably looked pretty cool, but it was a shame everything was now blurry.

“Okay… nothing I can’t handle,” Ruarc mumbled as he rose into a guarded stance. His eyes were wide but focused, as he tried to keep track of all of the blurs.

From her seated position Vrey gave Ruarc a short wave as the two faced off for just a scant second. Then, as the Direktor pushed himself away, the girl closest to him simply vanished.

Reappearing behind Drysi the bald teen was standing now, but still held her one gauntlet gripped in her teeth. When Vrey opened her mouth to speak, the piece of armour simply stayed held in the air alone instead of paying heed to the rules of gravity. "Hit, miss, trap in motion." As the quick, clipped words came out Vrey's bared arm rose to give the paper mage a confident thumbs up - right before her other hand snagged out and plucked a strand of hair from the Triclop's head. "Distracted dodge precedes the big bite, okay?"

With her part said, the still-green-still-glowing girl disappeared again, repositioning to the sturdy limb of a tree far above the rest of the combatants. Raising her elbow above her Vrey struck down at the base of a branch near her perch splitting it from the trunk with just the one hit. Catching the limb with her bared hand before it could fall more tendrils of power spread over the lopsided piece of wood covering it in a whirling mass of squirming lights.

Green strands quickly began to disappear one after another until Vrey was left holding a smooth bowstaff that, while meeting every requirements to be what it was, looked as if it had to be wrong in some way. Switching the staff to her armoured hand the odd teen looped the strand of hair around one end and then pulled on it as her magic twisted and lengthen it into a bowstring.

Grabbing a fist of leaves from above her Vrey crouched down and sorted through the pile of foliage - some would do for becoming arrows others wouldn't - and then turned her attention towards the fight below to wait.

"Ha ha ha! How was that! Ha ha ha!" laughed Drysi, incredulous at the effects of her work. It was amazing how Mr. Flynn moved around, despite the situation. She was taken in as Willow was, seeing how an experienced Mage dealt with threats, without fighting back. She got a little lost in thought as the action carried out and she worked on readying her next spell. Then, her brow leaned in heavy over her eyes, a bit more menace filling them. "Now now now, cannae get too excited cannae? Bloody druids an' their bloody runes. I'll show'em a little one two as a taste a'whats t'come, dancin' bastard."

The triclops continued to mutter in a husky, low tone for a little bit, not immediately noticing the bald girl appearing behind her. Her shoulder rose as the enchanted creature started to speak. Vrey's initial reception was an icy, poisonous glare, not all too uncharacteristic of Drysi. "Whaddya' want y'little floatin' leyline? Bugg--"

Pluck!

"-- uggAUGH! Vrey, that hurt!" Drysi shrilly squealed and threw her hands over her head, squatting and mewling; bright, tearing eyes stared painfully at the curly blonde strand, the evil glower in them gone. "You're supposed to be attacking Mr. Flynn, not me! Ah! Come back here! VREY! I'M NOT DONE YELLING AT YOU!"

The scribe shook her fist angrily, and rubbed her head. She had to get back to the fight, but had lost her train of thought. It looked like she had tried to start on one of her next spells, only two left at this point. The next spell looked like something a little more heavy-duty that she had been intending to use. "Can't go flinging fireballs around here..."

A couple of adjustments here, a bit of striking through there, and she produced her next spell. She pulled out a little jar, a piece of sand art that she had done in 2nd grade. It was wonderful mix of colors, and that was the point. She uncorked the top, and poured it on the scroll. Components ready, and everything written she read the incantation. The scroll lit up, with an extra layer of potency that Drysi wasn't expecting, and a cone of chromatic light burst from the paper at Ruarc. He recognized the Color Spray spell from the incantation, and then by the overly-vivid, soon-to-be-blinding wave of color rushing at him and anyone near him.
