"I got it!" went Elfriede as she came down low and knocked the ball back over the net with relative ease. "You've gotten better, Rote Mann! You suck reasonably less!"

"No, it's perfectly alright." Johnathan replied, trying to make her not feel bad about the incident. "I can always get another shirt anyways." He could already tell that Miyuki wasn't very comfortable with talking to Evey, even though she looked so absolutely adorable as she was in the Sim. It was a real pity the younger pilot didn't even want to at least make small talk; it wasn't every day your superior officer essentially chibified themselves. On the other hand, Miyuki did have a bleeding nose. Soon enough though, Johnathan's ears perked up as the younger pilot continued to talk, eventually going on to speak of another pilot, gone forever. Rhiannon wasn't the only one that had died that day, and he could only think of the one he knew. It was human, perfectly human, yes, but that didn't mean it was good, or that he felt good about it. 'God damned, I'm being selfish.'

"Yeah...we're all missing someone Miyuki." Johnathan spoke carefully, thoughtfully. "But don't worry, we're all in this together. Everything will be ok. I know it." He felt like a dirty liar.

Arcadia ignored Betty for a moment so she could make another well-practiced set before backing out of the way for her teammates. "It's Arcadia," she answered with a smile. It was perhaps the warmest greeting she'd given to anyone present.

It was probably safe to blame the warm and free environment, even if it was fake.

“Why thank ya, lass. You are doin’ better yurself, Ah only sense a marginal amount of bloodlust in yur actions,” Fred called back to Elfriede.

Steven hopped quickly under the ball as it came over to his team’s side. The captain brought his hands up under it and bumped it back to the back of the court. It could go to either Betty or Ruze. “Almost there guys, let’s push for the win!”

"Got it!" shouted Ruze as he moved to make the play. Unfortunately he wasn't nearly as practiced as many of the other players, and his bump went left and up rather than ahead. There were still a couple seconds for someone to make a save.

Steven was not expecting the movement of the ball, and jumped as he rushed to try and save the ball. However, his body was growing tired and did not react fast enough, so as he reached for the ball it went just passed his fingertips before hitting the sand. An audible sound of dismay could be heard from the crowd observing the game. The captain hung his head as he reached down and picked the ball up to toss it over the net.

“Nineteen to eighteen. Your serve for game point, Elfriede,” Steven called to his counterpart. As he walked back to his position he took a second to glance at the crowd. Once more Steven found himself in awe at the realistic environment even the people looked just as real as any one of the pilots.

Those in the crowd that were rooting for Steven and his team cheered and gave encouragement when they saw Steven look over, while those cheering for Elfriede’s team countered with their own calls and cries as the team took the lead; both trying to usher their team onto victory.

Elfriede offered a very satisfied grin as her team scored another point. Though she quickly brought a hand up to try and hide the overt, cocky smile. It seemed she didn't want to let on her joy just yet, but the expression on her face was like that of villian whose plot was coming together. She went back to switch places with Hetzer, to take her place in the server's spot.

"Don't get so sure of yourself, Elfriede!" growled Betty, recognizing that expression on the German's face. "Anybody who smiles like that before they win just looks like a little bitch when they lose!"

Elfriede looked shocked at the accusation, before cheerily turning her back to the opposing team and bending over, presenting her rear to them. She gave it a rolling shake.

"Please direct all concerns here," the scar-faced woman patted her bum, that cocky grin still spread on her face, "and kiss it."

Betty began to steam at that, and Elfriede used that moment to spin around, and serve the ball to the other side.

"Got it!" Unlike Betty, Arcadia was ready and clear-headed. She easily moved beneath the volleyball and made a fantastic set before lunging away so someone else could play. "It's up! Take it!" Ruze, feeling he was too far away, waited patiently for an opportunity. No one would hear him complain if the ball never found its way to his corner, however: watching the women was fun enough for him.

Another bump from the back row put the volleyball into spiking position, and Steven leapt up to send the ball bulleting almost straight down onto the opposing side. On the other side of the net, Fred had fire in his eyes as he locked a gaze with his friend as the spiked ball shot sand into the air.
The teams were tied, and both Steven and Fred wanted to win and beat the other. To the both of them, this game was a matter of pride, and both of the pilots had their own ulterior motives for wanting to claim victory; both pertaining to female pilots.
Steven’s team rotated to its new position as the ball was tossed over to Arcadia to serve. The players were tired yet tense, and the crowd cheered them on. This was the last volley that would guarantee the winner bragging rights for the remainder of the trip. Neither team was backing down and one could almost hear epic battle music playing from the sheer intensity and vigor of the game.
Arcadia lifted the ball and served, starting the final set of an epic game. This final volley was befitting the game as the ball was shot back and forth, a few close calls here and there, but the players refused to give up. More than five minutes passed as the superior Terran soldiers battled for the big win. The crowd was in awe as the players ferociously set and spiked the ball over and over.

Steven blinked sweat out of his eyes as the other team worked the ball and shot it back. Ruze bumped the ball, Betty set it up, and Steven launched himself into the air deliver the final blow. Employing a practiced flourish he had used dozens of times before to end games, he knelt down and thrust himself upwards with both feet. His light frame rocketed high above the net as he prepared for a power spike.
Fred recognized the motions of Steven’s flourish, and a fierce smile crossed his face as he knew the contest was drawing to a close. The Irishman let out a raucous laugh as he got a chance to face Steven’s special flourish head on. The ex-marine pushed his large frame into the air as well. Despite being unable to get as much air as Steven, he was able to get all the height he needed to try and counter the spike in a way that could also very well turn the tables and win the game.
The crowd cheered wildly as the two opposing players rose into the air. As the ball rose into place Steven clasped his hands together as he got ready to smash the ball down into the sand. The definitive moment arrived and he slammed his fists into the ball like a hammer. Like a bullet, the ball shot down and away from Steven, however Fred had reached a prime spot and jabbed out with his right arm to intercept the ball.

Just like that, the game was over as Steven fell back to the sand. The team captain’s legs gave way and he crashed down into sand, his head coming to a rest next to the volleyball. Steven simply laid there in the sand catching his breath, and despite losing the game he felt more excited than disappointed.
On the other side of the net, Fred crashed down into the sand on solid legs as he then held himself up triumphantly. Continuing with his heroic pose he turned to Elfriede. “Well, still think Ah play like crap? What do ya think of tha’ piece o’ handiwork?” Fred said confidently.

Elfriede placed her wrists on her hips, slumped back a little bit as she looked at the result of the game. Despite the moment ago where she threw her fists up in the air, giving in minorly to the celebration, the powerful German was wearing a rather bored looking face. She pulled on the elastic of her bikini's waistband, stretching it out a little as she seemed to become instantly interested in something. Even if they had won, Elfriede had still been shown the other way around with her cocky talk. Fred had had actually done rather well, and now she needed to admit or she'd look like a total bitch!

"Yeah..." she murmured, grunting a little affirmation at that. "You were pretty cool, Rote Mann."

Meanwhile, Betty walked over to Steven, leaning over the man, heaving heavy, exhausted breaths. She looked rather disappointed at the outcome of the game, but still held a hand out to the man, with a mild smile.

"I think you did great." said Betty, holding her hand out to the man. Apparently, her resignation to show appreciation for skill hadn't been mired in bitchery.
