Tenner City beat.

Post by Kai »

Planet Tenner. An industrial planet, that didn't have much of an environment to speak of, and practically nothing living on it except bacteria. It did, however, have plenty of resources, and was in the goldilocks zone that made it wonderfully conducive to a certain amount of terraforming. It was one of the first planets to be terraformed after the AI war, and was soon built into a manufacturing powerhouse that had more buildings than anything else on the surface, aside from perhaps mining operations. It was nothing but industrial and urban sprawl. Sure, you had a few city centers for some of the better precincts, and a few places even had suburbs, but the majority of it was large buildings. Apartments, offices, warehouses, factories, and the like crowded the skyline, making shadow the normal amount of light at street level. Even then, multiple stacked layers of roads and railways obscured the actual ground, leading to a literal dark underbelly.

On Tenner, crime was rampant. The police forces outnumber the military presence by a large margin, and truthfully, both the planetary guard and the republic garrisons don't leave the security of their installations often. Despite the crime, and the fact that the military would rather stay out of things, the police do their best to keep the bustling metropolis as safe as possible. Naturally, there's never enough of them, and the fact that beings from across the galaxy come to Tenner looking for jobs means that the never ending stream of immigration makes keeping records and tracking people down quite difficult.

Still, it's a job that needs to be done, and one that those whom have it, take pride in.

Sugora district, one of the most varied districts on Tenner, is one of the oldest districts on the planet as well, having been one of the initially colonized areas, and yet, despite that, doesn't seem to remember much of its history or hold much pride in it. However, since it was settled before the decision to turn the planet into one big city, it has a bit more landscape. Rolling hills lead down to a jagged coastline, which has been nearly completely taken over by docks and ports, numerous bridges stretching out from these fingers of land converge on a single point several kilometers out in the ocean; an artificial island that houses the planet's oldest, and therefore most run down, spaceport. Atop the hills lie everything from suburban housing tracts, to metropolitan centers, and urban sprawl, with the farther one travels inland, the larger the buildings became, hedging up against one of the few mountain ranges on the planet that didn't have enough resources contained within for it to be worth tearing down.

Sugora district, despite all its variances, only contains a single police precinct, and tends to be one where both new officers come for the first assignment, and old officers go for their last. The old come here to wind down, teach the next generation, and retire, the young, come here to learn and experience a multitude of different types of environments, so they can then be sent anywhere that they are needed. The system seems to work, but, regardless of the ever-constant presence of the police, between the spaceport, and the urban areas, and all the industrial spaces, crime is just as present as anywhere else on Tenner.

Sugora district: Mountainous region;

Deep in an uninhabited canyon, yet still overshadowed by the massive buildings to the west, a road snaked its way up the slope, making its way up to an almost unused pass that led from Sugora to the deep city on the other side. Often filled with refuse, sometimes used as an encampment for new immigrants and homeless alike, the canyon was mostly filled with the low, hardy brush that had been imported to the planet to help increase the amount of oxygen in the air. Likewise, stands of small, thickly trunked trees could be found scattered about, brought in for the same purposes. Along this road, on this day, however, the police had stopped. Sirens flashing, cordons set out, with a few officers directing what little traffic was seen as they investigated a disturbance that had been reported by an anonymous tipster.

A body had been found, of what appeared to be a young woman. It was mostly hidden beneath a pile of refuse, several large black polymer bags filled with garbage. The body, from what they could tell, was of average height, a somewhat slender and attractive build, with long blonde hair. The body wore what appeared to be almost rags, tattered clothes that would have at one point looked like they belonged in a hospital, or perhaps a prison of some kind. She lay, eyes closed, unbreathing, and cold, and yet there didn't seem to be a single mark on her, aside from some smudges of dirt from when she had been dumped. Aside from this, there wasn't much evidence; bent blades of grass suggesting some sort of hovering vehicle, but no actual tracks to form any leads just yet.

Detective Temperance Krieger rose out of the cruiser and shut the door. His mind was on the scene while his hands performed the ancient ritual of donning his forensics gloves. A femme- he wouldn't risk assuming her human or android just yet- by a pile of trash on a well-traveled road. Not a main thoroughfare, but still certain to catch anyone's eye if they drove by. So she wasn't meant to be hidden. She was a message or an escapee.

After his initial assessment, he approached the line and presented his detective rosette to the patrolman. From the line he did another scan, this time of the femme. No visible marks of trauma or struggle. Some might be hidden under what little remained of her clothing. He expected there would be none since several wounds should have resulted from whatever had thrashed her clothes. Android, maybe.

Eyes hidden behind department-issue sunglasses glanced at the patrolman. "The story?" His voice was clear and quiet and it took the man a second to realize it was a question aimed at him.

"Detective Eight-Seventeen, Crevi-" The door on the passenger side of the cruiser was cracked open and a slim, uniformed figure slipped out to lean against the vehicle. Clearly robotic in nature the second detective's skin was made of interlocking metal plates of a pale bronze off-set against a rougher textured black plastic. The robot's face was a simple, blank holographic display only covered by a pair of black shaded goggles similar to what Detective Krieger wore. When the synthetic officer spoke a thin line of yellow light was generated near where a mouth should be and pulsed and spiked in motion with the clipped highs and lows of each syllable. "- reporting on scene, at the intersection of Redding and 23rd, with a response time of..."

Crevi 817 continued speaking, drawing out each protocol to an exacting measure, the AI pulled most of their processing load away from the routine, banked motion they had started and instead flipped through a short spectrum of sensors available to them. Their head never twitched, but the droid would shift their body slightly - a bend here, a simple movement to brush a uniform shoulder off - to scan as much of the area as possible.

Nodding to theirself as they continued to speak to headquarters Crevi folded their arms across each other and the robot's left hand begin to tap and swipe almost randomly against their right elbow. Pale amber text appeared on the inside of both Crevi and Temperance's glasses as the robotic officer continued to move their fingers against their sleeve.

Subject: Non-Organic, scans estimate a high chance still operational.

After realizing he had been asked a question, and watching the odd behavior of the second detective, the officer stammered a bit as he gathered himself "W-w-well it was called in anonymously, no idea when the body got here except sometime within the last 24 hours. This area's always covered in trash and bodies aren't uncommon due to the migrant homeless population that frequents, but, this one's not the usual dead vagrant. I've only really been here long enough to start cordoning off the scene, so I really don't know much more than you, and we didn't touch anything so we don't mess up any evidence."

The young officer seemed somewhat nervous, it was clear that he was of the new generation being trained in Sugora, but aside from that there really wasn't much information he could give them, and they would have to investigate further. Already, a forensics van had pulled up and the crew was piling out, getting ready to document everything.

While the patrolman offered what scraps he had, Krieger glanced at the words resting on the bottom rims of his glasses. He tilted his head toward his right shoulder- but more specifically, Crevi- and gave a small nod that they were sure to notice. Then he noted the forensics van and silently snapped a few of his own photos with his lenses. With a few quick glances, he shot them over to his partner and then to the forensics team. They would of course take more detailed photos and other samples he couldn't acquire, but it let them know the scene prior to their own investigations. A message was sent with the photos: Jane A. on scene intact and likely functional. Standby for all clear call.

All that was left was to ascertain the Jane A.'s actual condition. He swept back his jacket to rest one hand on his taser and set it to synthetic; the other settled on his hip. Temperance stopped about a yard away from the unmoving shape and called out, "Ma'am, are you okay?"

Crevi pushed off from their position by the cruiser and walked over to the forensics van. The detective's metal fingers rapped loudly against the outside of the sliding door just before opening it. Looking inside, with just a scant nod to the group suiting up to begin gathering evidence, the android focused on an officer sitting in front of the console that had received the photos from Temperance.

Stepping into the van and slipping over to console, Crevi leaned down and tapped each of the individual garbage bags causing the image to turn their outlines a glowing red. "We'll want dates on how long each of these seems to have been sitting there." Staring at the rest of the picture the yellow line that was Crevi's mouth stayed apparent as a thin, firm line. "If we can get the clothes off the subject I want them interred until the end of this investigation. Full spectrum tests for each piece."

As the last word was clipped out the android officer paused, looking away as they dived into an internal databank. After a scant moment Crevi's attention was bared back towards the console's operator. "Traffic Observation has a full blind spot here. Get them on a line and tell them to set up active surveillance for the incident site and all calculated approaches until further notice."

While waiting for a response Crevi crossed their arms again and typed out a message to Krieger: Not a slop job. Maintain caution.

The forensics team didn't waste a single second, despite Crevi's insistence on bothering their lead. A crew of four making their way past the Android and Krieger, and setting up a near perfect square around the vicinity, deploying identical devices which popped both up and down from their hands simultaneously, striking the ground below and culminating in some form of sensor roughly 3 meters above each of the technicians. The four devices beeped as they synced up, and then in a matter of moments washed the scene in lights, for just a few seconds before they completed the cycle. Everything logged, the four technicians jogged back to the vehicle and plugged in their devices, uploading all of the data they had just taken in, a 3 dimensional model throughout multiple spectrums; visual, thermal, even the densities of the objects within the scanned area were recorded from every possible angle.

The forensics lead turned to Crevi, giving the Android a curt response, "Well, we've scanned the immediate scene so we'll have the information you need once it's done processing. My crew's going to start logging the surrounds, but the scene is open for you and the other detective to start digging into if you need it. Cleanup crew's on it's way, as well, so don't take too long."

As far as Temperence's call out to the woman- it garnered no response; whatever or whoever it was, it was not currently able to respond or move at all.

Temperance pushed to Crevi, Need you here, then waited for them to approach. "I'll roll her, you run diagnostic. If she's not dead, we'll throw on the cuffs and get her out of here." The human detective was irritated. Picking up dumped androids was not their job. Not that it mattered. They would still do it, but it was irksome.
