August gestured back and forth with a couple of the hangar coordinators before ending with a thumbs up. "Alright Green Flight, gonna run through the flight plan while we approach the launch window," August said, shifting his comm over to flight specific. As he spoke he also began his taxi to the launch zone. "Stage one, we are going to be escorting a group of drop ships down town to help relieve some of our boys that are cut off. Stage two, breaking off and engaging the enemy fighters that are playing vulture around the docks. Stage three, continue to support the ground forces unless new order come in. Any questions?"

Not long after the quick briefing, Green Flight got the order to launch. "This is Green Flight, taking off," August relayed back to Flight Control. Rocketing forward, the hangar became a blur as his talwar launched out into the tumult of the battle. Awe inspiring in its own way, the lieutenant had only seen scenes like this one during simulations back in his academy days. "Green Two and Three, fall in, proceeding to rendezvous."

Rally felt alive as the small flight of fighters made their way out into battle, though if one were to actually see her, they would notice she was also quite Antsy. She wanted, so badly, to get in on the action ahead of them, but she knew escort duty was much more important than her idea of fun- that being dogfighting with other starfighters. The conflagration raged- It was clear that the Talwar starfighters of the UGR navy had a major advantage in terms of capability, but the Planetary Guard's Gladius fighters were present in much larger numbers, almost five to one. Regardless, Green squadron had a mission, and in order to do it, they needed to press on ahead.

The drop ships, equal in number to their own flight, burst forth similarly from a different launch bay, and quickly rendezvoused with them, flying a straight and steady path, protected by much more powerful shields than what the smaller starfighters were capable of wielding. still, they were vulnerable and had very little defenses aside from a couple of heavy anti-personnel turrets that were largely ineffective against even the primitive Gladius starfighters.

"Awright, How bout we each pick us a Cab and stick wit' it until we're in atmo?" Rally suggested, moving her fighter to protect the port transport, scanning everything to the left of the formation and expecting the other two to fall in and make sure they had eyes everywhere.

Lt. Sampson felt that old familiar thrill as they launched, and smiled. Adrenaline fed into those ancient fears and anxieties when one approached death knowingly. But it was a good thing, and Cecil knew how to seize on it and turn it in her favor. She had practiced and meditated on how one can teach the body to respond positively to stress and anxiety to produce more efficient results. It was all a head game: anyone could do it, but few people seemed interested in investing in their mental aptitude if it didn't come in a box with a shiny tag.

"Copy, LT," she answered after August refreshed them on the plan. In response to Rally's suggestion, Cecil made a counteroffer: "I think a zone defense would be more sensible seeing as there are so few of us."

"Sampson has the right of it," August agreed. "You two ride low on the outside of the wedge, I'll fly high near the front and center. If we are engaged, I will shift to the flank that is getting hit, which ever one of you is on the far side is to make sure no one slips past, and to keep an eye for any potential pincer maneuvers we might not have noticed. If all Hell breaks loose, we'll do our best to harass them as long as we can to give the cabs the best shot we can. Now, quotable moment time, let's go bring our boys home."

Content that he had punctuated the game plan perfectly, the young flight leader notified the dropships of the plan, and accelerated forward.

"Raaaaaawj" Rally responded, drawing out the punctuated response to show a slight bit of displeasure. She was sure her idea was best, but there was probably a good reason she hadn't advanced much farther up the ranks despite her flying abilities. She maneuvered her Talwar into the formation as ordered, making sure to keep on the lookout for anything she could. This close to the Karakoram, however, it seemed that point defenses and the screen of high-performance Talwar fighters were doing a good job of keeping the planetary guard's Gladius fighters from getting through, though it would only be a matter of seconds before they broke into actual combat.

Letting his wingmate huff, August focused on his sensors as he was intent on not letting the enemy get the jump on them. Amid considering the notion of these soldiers suddenly changing from allies to enemies, his sensor lit up. Checking the readout, it seemed apparent that Green flight was about to get its first taste of this insurgency.

"Heads up, we've got three bogeys that split off from the main group, and two more on an intercept course from atmo," August relayed, his tone was professional and steady as he slipped into a combat mindset. "Sampson, gonna be you and me hitting the three, Rally intercept the other two. And Rally, shout if you need help on your end."

Pulling on his controls, and his Talwar drifted over to sit just above and in-front of Sampson's fighter. Behind the flight, the three dropships drifted into their own defensive formation, ready to take evasive maneuvers in the event that the enemy Gladius' broke through.

"Gotcha, LT" Rally responded, turning her fighter and making her way toward the enemies. she didn't hesitate at all, unlocking the safety override on her laser cannons and lining up with one of the two enemies. While she knew it wasn't likely to hit an alert enemy at this range, she nonetheless opened fire, as attempting hiding any longer wouldn't do any good as even crappy fighters would have her on their sensors by now, and she didn't want to draw it out any longer.

Her first salvo launched at her targets, she gunned the engines, letting the superior speed of her Talwar draw her close before the Gladius fighters could do more than avoid her fire, and coming in close enough to where her craft's maneuverability would easily outweigh the advantage of being two to one that the guard fighters currently had.

Cecil rolled her eyes at her colleague's reaction, but said nothing. "Copy." Calm. This is it. Another dance with death. Just a few millimeters between you and a frigid, painful end. Calm. She took a deep breath and settled into her seat. Muscles were set at ease. The tension evaporated like sweat in a cool breeze. A brief prayer of gratefulness flitted through her mind. "On your mark, LT."

The three enemies that had split off to intercept the trio from Green squadron brought themselves to bear at August and Cecil, launching missiles at the pair as their lasers weren't as powerful as those on the Talwar and couldn't hope to hit from that range; of course, the Missiles the Gladius carried were nothing to snuff at, and unlike the lasers they could bypass shields and destroy a fighter with a single solid hit. Both the Talwar fighters' screens would light up with lock-on warnings, with three missiles coming at each of them.

Rally's more aggressive approach seemed to fare a little better than the patient approach, as the Gladius fighters she was up against had to break formation to dodge the laser blasts she had let out before closing the distance, and they had a harder time getting a missile lock on the blue-haired girl's somewhat more active fighter. These two were fully engaged with Lt. Thomas as they began firing on her with their cannon, the laser blasts lighting up the void between themselves and the Republic fighter that was now harassing them.

An inhale. Pause. Release. "Alright Sam, I'm gonna feint, see about pulling them into a combat spread. Ride high, get behind them, push the offensive," August relayed to his wingman. Pushing his nose low, the pair neared the oncoming trio before the young man appeared to jumped the gun. Pulling up, he did his best to look green by peppering one of the fighters with ineffectual fire that splashed across its shields. Pause. Hard bank. Accelerate. He was trying to make it look like a flight academy snob trying to get a redo in the simulators.

"C'mon guys, nice easy target to blast," August said to himself. "Officer with a fresh diploma. Those gotta be fun to shoot at, right?"

Ruse aside, the young lieutenant adjusted the angle of his shields, and was prepared to show of some evasive maneuvers for the fish who took the bait.
