While he was definitely glad to have his body back, Lutz gave another dejected sigh as things continued down a rather odd path. All things considered he had accomplished his goal of finding Hotaru, only she was in the company of a solid black form that looked just like her. Noting the eyes of the entity the German looked over to his own companion to see if there was a connections, and sure enough the red-eyed ghast had taken on his form. He habitually reached up to rub his hand on the back of his helmet, and was thus reminded of its disappearance when he felt his glove pass through his hair.

“Hey Hotaru, glad I finally found you,” Lutz said as he looked between the red and the blue eyed figures. After a couple of moments of silence he began to walk closer to his squadmate; admittedly feeling a little awkward without his helmet to act as a barrier between him and her. “Um, I see you also made a new friend, so do you happen to have any idea what is going on?”

As the world around them changed again, Lolita quickly replied to Irvine. "Then you're a bad, bad boy for taking advantage of us like that!"

The tall, buxom marine kept her heavy machine gun and proceeded to make her way down the corridor towards the noise. And of course, she made sure the manchild of a scout was kept in front of her. If one didn't know better, Lolita was the one leading him at gunpoint towards some destination. Loath as she was to admit it, she might as well have been doing so.

The cheeky little bastard would've probably preferred her to go in front and get skewered by some tentacled monster from the darkness.

John had a sneaking suspicion that Lolita wanted to shoot him in the back, almost like a chill when you think you're not alone in your cozy room with the lights off. He shook it off and concentrated at the task at hand. He cleared his throat and stated over the comms, "We're heading towards the mechanical sounds, maybe there's more lights there." He desperately hoped there were better lights farther down the hallway, he did NOT like being tethered to the entire squad. Seemed way too dangerous, plus, he couldn't wander off now.

The Squad made their way down the one dimly lit hallway, which, indeed did get brighter as they went. the sounds of machinery grew louder, and the temperature rose, as if something was creating heat nearby. Soon, they came upon the source of the noise and light- It was the main reactor room, and the power generators were still running, albeit a bit roughly. They seemed to have been somewhat cared for, but the hasty repairs and the fact that two of the machines had completely seized showed that heavy maintenance was needed to get them all operating properly again. The Squad would move through, the hallway becoming a gangway that led above the machines, with other gangways leading off to each of the reactors, but they could see that nobody was there, and the only other exit was straight ahead, so, they moved forward, and out of the reactor room.

And then everything went dark, and silent. A complete darkness, which nobody could see through enveloped each of them, effectively cutting them off from each other, despite the cable they were all connected to.

"The shadows here have taken up residence on the station" Hotaru began, motioning toward her copy. "They say there are still people here, and have taken it upon themselves to protect them. Apparently, the Shadows treasure life above all else, and so each one needs to have a living creature to protect, or they feel incomplete. Unfortunately, the Shadow population on the station is much higher than the human population, so the shadows have grown somewhat restless. They've lived a long time, the shadows, and seen many wars, many tragedies, many lives lost. They hate killing, more than anything, but I think they may be able to understand that sometimes circumstances call for it. They won't like it, but they will accept it." Hotaru paused for a moment as her copy leaned forward and whispered into her ear. "Ah, apparently, the others will be brought here soon, too. There's a camp up ahead. The Shadows seem to know that we can rescue these people, and possibly bring the shadows to a place with more people. They're kinda like guardian angels!" Hotaru giggled at that, hugging her copy, whose blue eyes seemed to grow a little wilder for a moment as it received affection from the ethnically Japanese girl.

"I hope you can get along with yours, he doesn't seem the happiest right now." Hotaru noted. and indeed, Lutz' shadow seemed to be rather brooding for now, as if it was rethinking its decision to commune with the German.

Lutz listened to his squadmate with his usual manner of quiet skepticism and passive acceptance. Once she had finished speaking and gone so far as to hug her specter, Lutz turned to his own noting that it did indeed look rather irked.

“It is probably just throwing a fit because it doesn’t like what I do for a living,” Lutz said in a mildly annoyed tone as he scratched his left ear. Locking eyes with his own specter once more he leaned closer to it as he inspected its features. “So, Hotaru, when you compare them to guardian angels, are you saying that these things are going to follow us around from now on? If so than the other me here will have to suck up his naïve views I suppose.”

"La, lala la la~" went Sarah as she skipped on ahead, as vigilant as ever, but now with a strange penchant for grace and an uncharacteristic girlishness. The Medic wasn't known for her good moods, but what usually resulted from those good moods. The saddest thing was, it was often because she had little to laugh or be happy about, since she often took things so seriously. So, in a situation like this, she'd appear quite insane, detached, or both. Still, it was nice to be in a good mood for once, she thought, even if it had to be at the cost of others. That's what happiness was worth, and it was going to last!

That is, until the darkness swallowed her up. She froze, looking about, seeing no light, feeling no one as she grabbed into the darkness. The rifle she was holding clunked against the ground as she dropped it to tug on her rope frantically. It only loosely resulted in a severed wire. Her body began to shake, as she came to her knees.

"Lolita!" she cried out, but got no answer.

"Irvine?" again, no answer.

"John? Hotaru! Is anyone there!? Please! This isn't funny!"

She pulled her helmet off, discarding it to the side, and began to hiccup a small sob, her body quivering and shaking. Her purple eyes blurred under a veil of tears as she held herself tightly. Many people had outgrown their fear of darkness when they got older. Yet, for a girl who lived a life in a place where the sun never rose, total darkness meant something different. Things came out of the darkness to get you, swallow you up, and there was little you could about it. Once your light went out, so did your life.

"Somebody... Anybody..." went Sarah shakily, trying to make as small a ball as possible. Her crying words registered a gentle volume under her teary sniffs. "... I-... I'm scared... Th-... This... this isn't funny..."

She dug her face into her armored knees, staining the plate's paint with tears.

"... Please..."

So far, so good. Just that now, they were all in the reactor area - which meant that a stray shot would have that wonderful possibility of breaching containment and blowing them all to hell. Fusion reactors were 'safer' in comparison to a Fission assembly say, but that didn't mean they were without the Hollywood style explosion. And this was without mentioning the Anti-Matter reactors as well. Lolita continued walking along the gangway with the others - the irritating scout had settled down, Irvine was himself, and Sarah was...well, she was happy. Which, was also worrying. Still, she seemed stable for the time being, so there was no point in - Pitch Black. Her line went slack as the ends fell to the floor.

'This is it.' she decided.

The tall marine leveled her particle beam spitting heavy machine gun at where she remembered the reactor below her was. "If you hurt my friends..." Lolita started, voice icy cold, "I'm going to blow this entire station to smithereens and drag your sorry ass into hell personally! Because there's no way I'll let you mess with their or anybody's lives like toys!" She yelled into the darkness.

"And if you're going to put me down, you better do it in one shot - otherwise, BACK OFF!"

As soon as things went black, Irvine's body did exactly as it had been training: the line was unhooked and he dropped onto his stomach; a painful and miserable idea in retrospect. Not only was the line cut, but he had dropped one thigh onto a holstered pistol. With the quietest grunt he could manage, Hillman rubbed the sore spot and drew the gun. Both hands were now occupied with a weapon, but he didn't need his hands to stand up, and would much rather busy them with the task of self-defense. Admittedly, they were much more capable against an unarmed human opponent, but thus far no opponent had been human and unarmed. Best to stick to the guns, then.

When there was no sound for several seconds, he rolled onto his back and looked ahead. No one had called out, when everyone should have. The cowardly scout, the neurotic medic, and the motherly heavy- all of them had it in their very personality to call to the others- for reassurance, the first two, and to give reassurance, the last one. He got nothing. Now something was wrong.

Irvine curled his legs and then rolled forward, easily rising to his feet and advancing. He kept both guns out ahead, cutting lines through the darkness- his best imitation of a blind man's walking stick.

The Marines whom had been strung together now found themselves lifted off the ground despite their best efforts to the contrary. Each of them would hear something that sounded like muffled whispers, indistinct but definitely there. Their struggles proved in vain as their weapons were all wrested from their hands while the darkness closed in, completely insulating the squad from the outside world. It was extremely claustrophobic, and nobody could feel or see anything but blackness.

Several minutes- It felt like hours to some- passed by, and suddenly, they found themselves gently placed on the ground. The room held within it four figures who were already there, two deep black, and two looking more humanly-colored.

"Oh, look, they're here." Hotaru's voice called out.

Lutz looked away from his double when Hotaru pointed out the new arrivals. The German couldn’t help but chuckle a little at the shaken appearance of a few of them. After some time he raised a hand and waved to the squad.
“Well, it’s about time you all showed up,” Lutz called jokingly over to the group.
