====== Rosenium ====== Rosenium is a useful material in the BHotR setting, used for various things such as power generation and weapons. a fairly rare substance, it is used especially by the United Terran Republic to power large craft such as starships. ===== General Characteristics ===== Rosenium is a crystalline mineral, which has qualities of both Organics and Metals. It is naturally occurring underground on certain planets, where it forms deep beneath the surface before being pushed upwards by tectonic forces, eventually reaching the surface in Veins. Normally very small, Rosenium crystals range from infinitesimally small, to one specimen that was discovered measuring over 30 meters in length and weighing well over 10,000 tons. Rosenium is reddish in color, with a somewhat milky hue, and the surface feels soft to the touch. When Rosenium comes into contact with water, it releases enormous amounts of energy, generally as heat, though some light is produced. This massive release of energy causes the water to instantly turn into steam, while only very small amounts of the Rosenium are broken down, resulting in a long lasting crystal, even if submerged in water. As such, on planets with weather, Rosenium can often be found by the telltale steam vents escaping over the landscape when it rains. The broken down form of Rosenium is known as [[bhotr:Rosenite]] As a crystal, Rosenium is able to be honed into extremely sharp points, and is harder than the much-fabled diamond, while not quite as brittle, and so it is less likely to shatter. Unfortunately, due to its reaction with water, Rosenium is incapable of being used in the medical or industrial fields as bladed or grinding tools. Unlike many older materials used for power generation, Rosenium is stable and nonreactive to every substance other than water, and is not radioactive. It can be easily handled without any protective gear if one is in a dry environment. It will not contaminate its surroundings, and is perfectly safe for humans to use as long as they do not consume it, or let any bodily fluids come into contact with it.
